The grassroots of giving, soccer style.

Give N Go Soccer PlayersThe Give N Go Project believes that soccer has the capacity to transcend socioeconomic status and serve as the universal language around the world to galvanize communities. As such, their mission is to provide relief to the underprivileged by giving donated soccer equipment to orphanages in developing countries, as well as to the needy in inner cities in the United States. The group’s emphasis is to distribute gear and provide mentorship, as well as give professional soccer training to kids around the world…in effect, creating a family and team atmosphere for children who do not have families.

Soccer HugPreviously the group has completed mission trips to Costa Rica, Colombia and the Bahamas. In January of this year, volunteers visited Haiti and helped out an amputee soccer team directly affected by the earthquake, five teams of underprivileged kids, and a couple orphanages in Port Au Prince. Upcoming sheduled mission trips include Miami, Los Angeles and Jamaica.

Hole-y delicious treats: today is National Doughnut Day.

pink donutWhat do donuts have to do with soccer? Not much, aside from the fact there are plenty of players who’d rather see donuts as the official half-time snack rather than oranges.

Regardless, we just wanted to let you know that today is, in fact, National Doughnut Day. It takes place the first Friday of every June, succeeding the Donut Day event created by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served donuts to soliders during World War I.

Did you know?

  • The average American eats 34 doughnuts a year.
  • 9,776 Dunkin’ Donuts shops in 31 countries sell 5.3 million donuts EACH DAY.
  • 10 million pounds of powdered sugar go into making 2 billion Hostess ‘Donettes,’ the most-bought brand in grocery stores.

Most donut shops across the country, including Dunkin’ Donuts, will be giving away free donuts today…while supplies last, of course, so get ’em while they’re hot!
