Do Energy Drinks Work For Soccer Sprints?

energy drinksEnergy drinks such as Red Bull are becoming increasingly popular among young athletes. Energy drink companies now sponsor many athletes and sports teams including New York Red Bull of Major League Soccer. Thus, it is not surprising that many high school age players regularly drink one or two servings of an energy drink prior to competition.

When asked, they comment that the “caffeine shot” improves their strength, alertness, quickness and endurance. However, is this truly the case?

Read on to find out one scientific study’s conclusion.

Making the world a better place: Code Four customer Dariusz Stuj.

As an accomplished marathon runner. Dariusz Stuj has gone through plenty of footwear. When it comes to walking in other people’s shoes, he’s just as experienced.

Dariusz and his crew in their element.

For the past three years, he has orchestrated community-building volunteer efforts for needy people in Africa through his Rainbow of Magnolia Fountains of Life charity, an offshoot of his landscaping company. Along with several volunteers, he has personally visited African villages and worked tirelessly to improve their quality of life.

The villagers love to see Dariusz, and love to play soccer!

Last year, for example, Dariusz and his crew dug a deep-bore water well for the Masai village of northern Tanzania. This now makes it possible for the villagers to get water in their own community rather than making the arduous miles-long walk each day to secure this basic resource.

This year, Fountains of Life has focused its efforts on the Masai children. Just a few weeks ago, they completed work on a school in the village for children ages 10 and older. Rather than walk miles for schooling, they can now receive an education close to home. Like all kids, they look forward to recess, so Dariusz worked to provide soccer supplies, soccer uniforms, balls and shoes for them!

A school building is their latest project.

“We are deeply committed to continuing our efforts to aid the different communities in Tanzania, Kenya and Cameroon as they work to become as independent and self-sustaining as possible,” said Dariusz. A recent donation of sewing machines and sewing classes, for example, have helped local women broaden their skills and boost the village’s economy.

Fountain of Life’s future plans include supporting an orphanage in Uganda.

Leo Messi gets 7 million fans in 7 hours.

Leo MessiSeven hours after Argentine soccer player Leo Messi started his Facebook Page last week, he had almost 7 million “Likes.”

To put that into perspective, it’s 40% as many Likes as on U.S. President Barack Obama’s Facebook Page (19 million), and about 30% as many as on Justin Bieber’s Facebook page (25 million) — but Messi’s Likes were gathered in hours, not years.

Messi, who plays for FC Barcelona and is considered by many to be the best soccer player in the world, wrote in a translated welcome message on his page, “Hola! Welcome to everyone. Thank you very much for the great number of messages that I have received. I am so excited! From now on we will be more closely connected … through Facebook.”

How to beat the heat at World Cup 2022.

World Cup 2022 Qatar cloudWith an average summer temperature close to 100 degrees in Qatar, the folks working on World Cup 2022 are looking for ways to keep their cool. We love the latest: A local engineering teacher has revealed designs for an ‘artificial cloud’ that will hover over the pitch and cover everyone in a cooling shade.

Saud Adbul Ghani says the system would cost half a million dollars, and will be made of 100% light carbonic materials, fueled by four solar-powered engines. It will be operated by remote control and will fly high to protect direct and indirect sun rays to control tVuvuzela kidemperatures.

One thing’s for sure: All the temperature talk should drown out any complaints about vuvuzelas.

Soccer team spotlight: Pioneer Pirates of Dupont, WA.

Pioneer Middle School girls' soccer team photoWe recently had the pleasure of outfitting the Pioneer Middle School girls’ soccer team of Dupont, WA. They were nice enough to send us a great team photo and action shot, which we just couldn’t keep to ourselves.

Pioneer MS girl soccer playerHead coach John Nystrom and his players posted some impressive numbers for their season, which just ended a couple of weeks ago. The Varsity squad went 6-2-2 with 46 Goals For and just 5 Goals Against. The JV team went 9-0-1 with 50GF and just 3GA. “I wish we could play for 2 more months,” exclaimed Nystrom.

Pioneer Pirates soccer logoThe team wears our Code Four Athletics ‘Imperial’ soccer jersey, along with our ‘Omega’ soccer shorts. We also created and printed a Pirates logo on the jerseys, which we numbered as well. Go Pirates!
